A Battlefield bidding war has ensued as the video game adaptation has five top-tier studios vying for the rights to the film.
Electronic Arts‘ lucrative first-person shooter video game franchise is being adapted into a new film, with Michael B. Jordan attached. Jordan, who recently won an Oscar for his role in Sinners, is slated to produce and potentially star in the film. Now, a new report shows just how much interest there is in acquiring the film’s rights.
Battlefield Movie Sparks ‘Bidding War of the Year’
According to TheWrap, Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon MGM Studios, Sony, Universal, and Netflix have all submitted bids for the rights to adapt the military shooter into a video game. The report even dubs the negotiations as “shaping up to be the biggest bidding war of the year.”
In addition to the aforementioned Michael B. Jordan, Christopher McQuarrie is also attached to the project. McQuarrie is slated to write, direct, and produce the project. He’s known for writing films such as Top Gun: Maverick and several Mission: Impossible movies. He’s also listed as a writer on the 1995 film The Usual Suspects.
Battlefield Is Far From the Only Forthcoming Video Game Adaptation
In 2026, it seems video game properties are primarily focused on expanding into other media. God of War, Atomfall, Assassin’s Creed, and Fallout are all major video game franchises that have received TV adaptations. Learn more about the recently announced Atomfall adaptation here.
