Subnautica 2 will be entering Early Access on all PC gaming platforms, including Steam, the Epic Game Store, and Xbox Game Pass, on May 14. The announcement was made by the game’s developer, Unknown Worlds, on April 30.
The game is crafted as a solo experience, as was the 2018 predecessor. However, the option is there to play with up to three friends in online co-op. The developers tout the release of multiple characters and customization options throughout the Early Access experience.
“Driven from your home by ongoing conflict, Alterra offers you the chance at a new life. But as the colony ship CICADA shepherds you and your fellow Pioneers to your new home, something goes awry. The ship’s AI insists that your mission should continue. Stranded and faced with near-insurmountable odds, you must do everything in your power to survive. The future of humanity on this world is in your hands,” reads the game’s synopsis on Steam.
Outbound Moving Up PC Release to Avoid Subnautica 2
The much-anticipated release from Unknown Worlds has prompted at least one independent developer to release sooner to avoid being swept up in the hype for Subnautica 2. Outbound, a colorful and cozy base-building game centered around a camper van, will now be released for PC platforms on May 11 instead of May 14. The game will still be coming to home consoles on the 14.
Square Glade Games made the announcement shortly after it was revealed that Subnautica 2 would be entering Early Access on the 14. In a Steam message, the development team joked that they had to avoid the Leviathan.
“The highly anticipated title Subnautica 2 just revealed their release date – which falls exactly on our planned release date. We need to dodge the Leviathan, which means that you can start your road trip on earlier! With Subnautica 2 launching on May 14th on Steam and Xbox, Outbound will now release earlier on May 11th on Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox – with the other consoles following on May 14th!”
