New Look At Xbox’s Project Helix Coming In May

The next time you’ll learn more about the upcoming Project Helix from Xbox is coming soon. In fact, it’s coming next week.

Announced on Thursday morning, Microsoft is hosting a Game Dev Update for Spring 2026 on May 7 at 12pm ET/9am PT.

The Game Dev Update is a new show from the company that is “bringing highlights directly from the teams building Xbox and sharing technical context and what it means for your work, all in one place.” Xbox says its goal is to “make it easier for you to stay informed, connect the dots, and understand how these changes show up in your day-to-day as a developer.”

As you can gather from the earliest descriptions, this is a series geared more towards the developers who will be creating games for the Xbox platform. Still, gamers will have some interest in the topics, especially when it comes to next-gen hardware.

The company confirmed that GM of portfolio and programs Chris Charla and VP of next generation Jason Ronal will give a “closer look at Project Helix” and will go through the details on the console that were first shared at GDC in March.

“Project Helix will create new opportunities for you to optimize build workflows, improve performance, and iterate more efficiently,” the company says. “Xbox is building for what’s next and we’re inviting you to join us on that journey.”

The next-gen system, which will have alpha versions of dev kits with developers starting in 2027, is powered by a custom AMD SoC (System on a Chip) and is “co-designed for the next-generation of DirectX.”

  • They gave up with Xbox One, they launch Series X/S with no games, and now this? It makes no sense. They can not come back. Consoles outside Nintendo are dead. Steam and Nintendo will reign supreme while Sony dies and maybe Microsoft finally goes software only. Having 2 awful generations there is no comeback no one was stuoid enough to try for a 3rd except these idiots burning more money. Buying another publisher like Take 2 would be cheaper and more profitable.

  • Yeah I don’t think this is accurate at all. If they commit to hearing out what their core base is calling for, stop nickel-and-diming us with excessive gamepass hikes, and actually focus on curating the hundreds of IP’s they’ve acquired but are just sitting on (looking at you Rare) they will earn back the confidence of players. Many of us are still here because we remember how great Xbox was and we know it’s possible to get back to that if they focus on their consumer base’s wants. Focus on hardware and a solid online structure, stop buying up beautiful IP’s and either doing nothing with them or worse, diluting them into a Marvel story (looking at Halo.)

  • J you got the Xbox situation wrong ps6 same basic launch Xbox helix proper badboy pc Xbox hybrid what the hell I’ve never heard of this idea ever and the idea was about 10 years old and that time the console power wasn’t appropriate holy dam

  • Haha sure. “Power your dreams” was the last slogan, if you dream of a weak console like series s you have to bring your advanced game to, the second it starts development and will be in development for over half a decade, like many of Xbox’s own 2020 announced games.

And that slogan started the same time they were straight up lying that 60fps would be the standard for series x, not even true for their own 1st party games.
And then they said that series s will run games exactly like they look on series x with ONLY the resolution being lower AT 1440p OR 1080p. Again, NOT even true for their own 1st party games.

Anyone who believes anybody at Xbox today, you have NOBODY to blame but yourself for the guaranteed buyer’s remorse.

    • Well the xbox is still a power house and the specs are available on the x series and s series online before you buy the system I will say some of the games on the series s have some issues that need to be addressed but over all I’ve owned every game system you can think of from playstation 5 to the handheld and I will say xbox by far is the best system out there.
