Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed the oft-discussed rumors about Grand Theft Auto 6’s pricing. While there were no definitive answers, Zelnick provided a look into the mindset the company is approaching the release with.
The comments were made at the IICON conference for gaming executives. Primarily, he emphasized the importance of ensuring that a game’s value exceeds its price point. Additionally, he noted that game pricing has generally decreased over the years, with most games priced between $60 and $70 for over a decade.
Take-Two CEO Won’t Commit to a Price for GTA 6
During his comments at IICON, Strauss Zelnick stated that he believes consumers will pay for the value they get, but as service providers, they have to overload their products with value.
“Consumers pay for the value that you bring to them, and our job is to charge way way way less of the value delivery,” Zelnick said (via IGN). “How you feel about something you buy is the intersection of the thing itself and what you pay for. Consumers need to feel like the thing itself is amazing and the price they were charged was fair for what they got.”
With such intense hype surrounding GTA 6, Zelnick admitted he’s terrified of the idea of measuring the game’s success.
“What we think about is making the most spectacular piece of entertainment on Earth, in history – and it’s a pretty daunting challenge. If we do that, and if we’re of service to our customers, then the upside will take care of itself,” he said.
He also addressed the release date, stating that it would remain the previously announced November date. Learn more about that here. Insider Gaming will continue to monitor the story and report any updates as more information becomes available.
