Castlevania Reboot Actively in Development at Konami

Many of Konami’s most storied franchises, from Metal Gear Solid to Silent Hill, have been reborn in one way or another in recent years, and it’s suggested more are coming, with Castlevania in development.

From the Metal Gear Solid Master collections to Silent Hill f, the Silent Hill 2 Remake, and other rumored Silent Hill projects, Konami has been giving classics a new coat of paint. We’re all for it, and these were crucial platforms to Konami’s success over the years. And if you’re a fan of Castlevania, then Konami hasn’t forgotten about you.

Whilst many people love Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and even older games, my heart beats faster at the thought of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

Is it a proper Castlevania game? That’s for other people to debate, and for me to enjoy the game.

Depending on how Konami is thinking, any number of Castlevania games could be in the pipeline. In an interview with Nikkei Gaming (through @Genki_JPN), they spoke to Konami Representative Director and President, Hideki Hayakawa:

“I mentioned that soccer, baseball, and Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game are our three pillars, but there’s no such thing as too many pillars. Our company has been making games for more than 50 years, and we hold several IPs that are beloved globally by many fans. We concluded that rebooting these properties would be an effective way to make the most of them.

In addition to METAL GEAR, SILENT HILL, and Momotaro Dentetsu, we are also actively developing Castlevania (known in Japan as Akumajō Dracula).

Our basic philosophy is that as long as there are customers for a given game, we will release it across multiple devices. Rather than focusing intensely on just one specific IP, we’ve built a structure that allows us to push forward on multiple IPs simultaneously with equal energy. That’s what this past year has looked like for us.”

It doesn’t specify a certain Castlevania game, but Konami is working to bring it back.

It also suggests that Konami could be working on new MGS and Silent Hill remasters or remakes, and if some of your favorite games are from those franchises…stay tuned.
