Steam Machine Release Is “Close”, Valve Says

The Steam Machine is still coming; Valve is just figuring out when that is.

Announced back in November 2025, the Steam Machine is geared towards bringing the Steam ecosystem into the living room. It’s not the first time it’s been attempted, but it is the first time that Valve is putting out a first-party device to do so.

Speaking to IGN recently, Valve’s Pierre-Louis Griffais said that its launch is “really just about the logistics of getting it into users’ hands.”

As I’ve reported in the past, the big thing with Valve is figuring out how much, if any at all, they would be willing to lose on the Steam Machine at launch. The original goal was always to keep it under $800 and release it by now, but it’s unclear if that remained the case as component costs rose while supply became less.

Some have speculated it could still cost around as little as $750 or as much as $1,000. Again, though, that’s all speculation at this point.

Valve told IGN that the release “is close” and that it’ll have “news to drop on that soon”. How close and how soon, however, remains to be seen. The last official update from the company was that it still hoped to ship the system in 2026, but “as we shared recently, memory and storage shortages have created challenges for us.”

Right now, it’s just a waiting game on when the console will be available for players.

Are you still interested in the Steam Machine, or does it really depend on the price? Leave your thoughts down in the comments and in the official Insider Gaming Discord.

  • Outside Nintendo the only other comsole you need if you want one. No point in PlayStation or Xbox no one cares. This generation was garbage thanks to awful woke millennials. They refuse to realize they killed gaming, entertainment, and honestly seem to want to ruin society with their narccisism
