Functional Thermal Paste You Can Eat? One YouTuber Made It

Thermal Paste is a thermally conductive compound used in PC building to eliminate air gaps between your cooler and processor—or other heatsinks and chips in the machine—to help with heat dissipation and keep your machine running as cool and efficient as possible. But did you ever wonder what it would taste like? Probably not, but one YouTube decided to create a new thermal paste that you can actually eat.

In a recent video published on his channel, mryeester unveiled his new product: an edible thermal paste using 24-carat gold leaf.

Gold is a conductor of heat, and could do well by itself as a cooler. The problem with the gold leaf, as you can see in the video below, is that it’s not in a liquid state, which still leaves air pockets between the processor and the cooler. So, Myeester decided to combine it with another edible element.

He spoke about possibily using toothpaste, but with the goal of making it “delicious”, he went for something else. That something else turned out to be honey.

He mixed the honey and gold leaf directly on the CPU in order to cover the full chip.

How Did The Honey-Gold Thermal Paste Perform?

To first test the mixer, he used a test bench and got results of 53° celcius (C) with a stock air cooler on 100% load without any thermal throttling. After that test, he moved to using it on an AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D processor.

For comparison, he used his air cooler first while playing Counter-Strike 2. For that test, he reached a max temp of 70° C before moving on to the honey-gold mixture.

Surprisingly, the 9850X3D didn’t reach thermal throttling temperatures, reaching a peak of around 78° C during a 10-minute Counter-Strike 2 game. Of course, should the mixture be put under continued use, it would be expected that temperatures would gradually rise to the point of throttling. So, it’s likely better to use the official product rather than something you may also want to eat.

Still, it’s a neat experiment that shows what can be done but probably shouldn’t be.

Would you ever use a honey and gold thermal paste that you can eat to cool your PC or other components? Leave your thoughts in the comments below, and in this official Insider Gaming Discord.
