Valve’s Steam Machine is still planned for a 2026 release. However, new comments allude to a further delay due to global market conditions and storage shortages.
In late 2025, Valve announced three new pieces of hardware: A new controller, a new VR headset, and the Steam Machine hybrid PC/game console. Initially, the hardware was set for release in the first half of this year. Valve then announced that they had to reevaluate due to RAM shortages. Now, they’ve provided a new update, revealing that they still hope to ship in 2026, but they do not have a firm public update to share yet.
“We hope to ship in 2026, but as we shared recently, memory and storage shortages have created challenges for us. We’ll share updates publicly when we finalize our plans!”
The Future of the Video Game Console Market
Xbox recently announced its next platform, which will also be a PC-console hybrid. Codenamed Project Helix. Xbox doesn’t want to commit to a 2027 launch window at this time, but AMD has said it is on track to support a 2027 release for Microsoft if needed.
Past reports have also suggested that the PlayStation 6 could be delayed until as late as 2029. The console market is very much in flux at this time.
Insider Gaming will continue to provide the latest news on hardware releases as more information is known.
