It’s a big year for the Pokémon franchise with a landmark 30th anniversary, which is set to feature a special TCG set, and the release date for the huge drop seems to have been uncovered.
Major anniversary years for the Pokémon franchise are almost always celebrated with a special TCG set, and the 30th anniversary set could be the biggest ever, with the potential for some eye-catching cards to chase.

When is The Pokémon TCG 30th Anniversary Set Released?
The official release date for the Pokémon TCG 30th Anniversary set has not been shared, but some major details have been uncovered.
The reliable Pokébeach has reported that the 30th Celebration TCG set will release in Japan on Wednesday, September 16th.
While Japan usually gets sets in advance of worldwide releases, the approach will be different for the 30th anniversary, as The Pokémon Company stated during Pokémon Day in February that the global release would be “simultaneous.”

However, it’s not expected to be a like-for-like release, and Japan will likely still get the set slightly earlier. The standard international release for the Pokémon TCG is for new sets to drop on a Friday, so it’s expected that the 30th Celebration set will arrive on Friday, September 18th.
A Wednesday release for Japan would result in the region getting the set around a day in advance of other regions, so while it’s not an exact level field, it’s significantly closer in release to other sets.
Additionally, the September 16th release date is exactly the same date as the 20th Anniversary set was released in 2016, and, on the same day, the 30th Celebration Premium Deck Set Espeon & Umbreon releases in Japan.
It remains to be seen whether the deck sets will have a similar release internationally or if they will be saved for a future set later down the line.
What’s Coming in The Pokémon TCG 30th Anniversary Set?
The Pokémon TCG 30th Anniversary set will introduce a brand-new card rarity to the TCG, with Pikachu, Mewtwo, and Mew all featured.
This could relate to the Mew and Mewtwo artwork teased on Pokémon Day, which featured an opalescent design, but full details are unknown for now.
All cards in the set are expected to be holo, similar to the Celebrations set for the 25th anniversary, and it’s expected that several iconic cards from the TCG’s history will be reprinted.

The teaser shown on Pokémon Day featured the likes of Charizard from Base Set, Palkia Lv. X, Crystal Lugia, Legend connecting art cards, EX and GX designs, Tag Teams, V and VStar, and Amazing Rare.
The 25th Celebrations set had a similar approach, with a subset featuring 25 classic designs, while promos featured more modern Pokémon with vintage styles, including Light Toxtricity, Dark Sylveon, and Delta Species Mimikyu.
