Base Building is a core mechanic in Subnautica 2, and you’ll spend a fair bit of time gathering resources so that you can build new installations for your underwater homes. However, you can’t just make them out of nothing, as you’ll need to use a Habitat Builder.
That being said, it’s not a Tool that’s easily acquired. You must first find and scan two degraded versions, though it takes a bit of exploring to find a pair of them.
Luckily for you, Insider Gaming knows exactly where you can find them, so you can get to building your dream base in Subnautica 2 as soon as possible.
Where To Find Habitat Builder In Subnautica 2

To build the Habitat Builder, you’ll first need to scan two degraded versions of the tool with a Scanner, both of which can be found while exploring.

Now, there are more than two degraded Habitat Builders to find in Subnautica 2, so if you play the game naturally and do a bit of exploring, you should run into two of them soon enough. However, if you’re looking for two precise locations that can get you the Habitat Builder unlocked as quickly as possible, then check out the locations pictured below.
Habitat Builder 1

Head into this cave, located just below the escape pod when you first arrive on the planet. At the bottom, below a piece of metal scrap, will be a scannable Habitat Builder—watch out for the poison spores!
Habitat Builder 2

The second Habitat Builder can be found on a box underneath the first Angel Comb that you should run into. Use the central bulb to gain an Adaptation.
How To Craft Habitat Builder In Subnautica 2
With those both scanned, you should unlock the crafting recipe for the Habitat Builder, which is fairly cheap to make.
Here’s how to craft a Habitat Builder in Subnautica 2:
- 2x Titanium
- 1x Glass
- 1x Basic Battery
- 1x Copper Wire
Another beginner-friendly recipe, it’s one that you should acquire early on and use fairly often. With it in hand, it’s time to build your very first base!
How To Build Bases In Subnautica 2

Building a base in Subnautica 2 might sound intimidating, but it’s incredibly simple, thanks to the Habitat Builder.
All you need to do is equip the Habitat Builder and open its menu. Here, you’ll see a variety of elements that you can build, as well as their associated crafting requirements. Generally speaking, building a base will need a fair bit of Titanium, Copper and Quartz, so make sure you have a healthy supply before beginning.

However, early in the game, you won’t have many to pick from, as you need to explore and find ruined bases to learn new blueprints. It’s best not to build a new base straight away, and to make sure you can at least build a Room, as nothing useful can be placed inside a Corridor.
With that in mind, explore Subnautica 2 and find some ruined bases, which are more than easy to find. After scouting them out, you’ll have unlocked new elements to build with, meaning you’re ready to crack on and get to work. A Room and a Hatch are all you need to start, as you can slowly expand over time.
As you play more and more of Subnautica 2, you’ll not only find new elements to build with, but also likely need to set up numerous bases across the vast ocean. Don’t get too attached to one location, and also be ready to continually expand as you need more room to work with.
