All Biomods & How To Unlock Them In Subnautica 2—Bioscanner, Explained

Before long, you’ll quickly run into a working Biolab in the Welcome Center during your early-game escapades in Subnautica 2, which allows you to equip different Biomods to your character. These come in two varieties: Active and Passive Biomods, and at the start, you’ll only have two of each to pick from.

It’s a notably small roster, but one you can expand upon during your travels across Subnautica 2. To do so, you’ll need to find and craft a very specific item—the Bioscanner. From my understanding, there’s only one to be found in the game, and it’s not an easy item to find.

With that in mind, here’s how to get your hands on a Bioscanner, as well as every Biomod and how to unlock them in Subnautica 2.

Where To Find Bioscanner In Subnautica 2

To build the Bioscanner, you’ll first need to find the degraded version of the tool with a Scanner, and it’s found in one specific location.

Unlike other Tools in Subnautica 2, it seems like there’s only one Bioscanner out there to find, making it harder to acquire. It can be found in the wreckage at the Blackbox Iso Signal, which will be shared with you as you continue to progress through the game.

However, if you don’t want to wait for that and go there early, it can be found in the second large area of the game, with the alien structures and darker, greener waters. It’s roughly 1,800 meters East of the Lifepod, or 600 meters South-East of the Alien Ruins Signal.

Once you arrive, you’ll need to find your way inside with the Repair Tool and follow the route. Swim through vents and holes in the walls until you begin to descend down a broken chamber of the ship. At the bottom, you’ll see the Bioscanner, as pictured above. Scan it, and head home, as it’s time to do some crafting.

How To Craft Bioscanner In Subnautica 2

Unlike other Tools in Subnautica 2, the Bioscanner is an upgraded version of the Scanner, which is crafted at a Modification Station.

Here’s how to craft a Bioscanner:

  • 1x Scanner
  • 2x Enamelled Glass
  • 3x Conduit Crystal

It’s definitely a serious step-up in terms of crafting recipes, as you won’t be able to find the Modification Station or Bioscanner until you reach the second big section of the game. However, it opens some major doors, with alien technology now scannable. That said, we’re here for Biomods, and more will now be unlockable.

How To Unlock New Biomods In Subnautica 2

You can unlock new Biomods by scanning new species of Fauna and Flora with your new Bioscanner.

Before you can see what each locked Biomod is, you’ll see a set of requirements you must reach before unlocking it. They’ll range from scanning a Water Slug all the way up to the Collector Leviathan!

It can be slightly frustrating, especially if you were scanning some species with the original Scanner, as you’ll have to get them again. But it can be worth it, as there are a host of upgrades available for you to unlock.
