How Long Is Subnautica 2 Early Access? Game Length & Total Hours, Explained

After years of waiting, Subnautica 2 has finally been released, but there’s a strong catch—it’s only early access. Fans of the series will be familiar with the format, but it does raise a pretty valid question: how much game is available?

With more content and new explorable areas still to be added, it’s generally been unclear what’s playable at launch and how long it will take to complete. For fans deliberating whether early access is worth diving into, it’s a question that needs to be answered.

Thankfully, Insider Gaming has all the details you could be after. If you’re wondering how many hours it will take to complete Subnautica 2‘s early access, you’re in the right place.

The exact length of Subnautica 2’s early access campaign is subjective, but generally speaking, there’s a solid 15 hours worth of content to unpack and explore.

Of course, this figure could vary depending on how you play the game. If you steamroll through progression, it could easily drop below the 15-hour mark, but if you enjoy taking your time and messing around with the base building, you could definitely add plenty of hours to its runtime.

Consider the fact that co-op is now an integrated feature, and there’s even room for more fun to be had just messing around with your friends. Of course, remember that the game is in early access; come back in a year or two, and that number could have doubled, or even tripled!

How Long Is A Subnautica 2 Early Access Completionist Run?

As things stand, there are no achievements for Subnautica 2, and there isn’t an objective endgame for the title, so a completionist run is hard to define.

You could argue that a completionist playthrough will be engaging with all of the content, but in an open-ended survival game like Subnautica 2, that’s fairly hard to do. For these titles, you’re better off calling it quits when you feel like you’ve seen it all, especially whilst they’re in early access.

Once Subnautica 2 officially releases in a complete state, there will be more content, unlockable achievements, and undoubtedly higher-tier gear to strive for. Until then, once you’ve spent in and around 20 hours in Subnautica 2’s current early access build, you’ve likely engaged with most of the content.

Are you diving into Subnautica 2 during early access, or will you wait for the game’s full release? Share your thoughts in the official Insider Gaming Discord Server.
