The Crazy Taxi social media page is teasing something. The series debuted in 1999, and its most recent release was the mobile game Crazy Taxi Tycoon in 2017. That game has been delisted since April 2020.
Now, amid ongoing talk about Sega putting in the work to revitalize classic franchises such as Crazy Taxi, the social media account has shared a new teaser video showing a taxi rooflight flickering before returning to normal.
In 2023, Crazy Taxi was one of the many classic properties Sega featured in a trailer at the Game Awards. Since then, Sega has continued to promote classic franchises like Streets of Rage and OutRun, returning. Recently, Sega announced the Sega Universe branding, specifically dedicated to housing the revival of classic IPs. Learn more about that at this link.
This new Crazy Taxi game is reportedly open-world and built in Unreal Engine. However, it would be the first major console release in the series in over 20 years, as the last console release was 2002’s Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller.
Obviously, it’s been over two years since Sega first teased the return of Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, and other classic titles. However, this recent social media tease is at least proof that something is happening with the beloved arcade-style driving franchise.
For more on Sega, learn how these classic properties will be returning beyond video games and in other forms of media. Insider Gaming will continue to monitor the story and report any updates as more information becomes available.
