If you’re tuning into Take-Two’s earnings call today, don’t expect to suddenly learn the price of Grand Theft Auto 6. That almighty figure is being played close to the chests of Take-Two and Rockstar Games’ head honchos and marketing strategists, apparently.
In a recent interview, Take-Two Interactive’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, explained that the team will never ever ever give a marketing update like that during an analyst call. Those are his words; I’m not just leaving typos lying around.
GTA 6 Price is Driving Everyone Nuts
The price of Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the biggest talking points in gaming right now. It has been a point of debate for months, and recently we put the question to our audience during the Insider Gaming Weekly Podcast. It was confirmed in the numbers that 80% of our listeners would pay $100 for the standard edition of GTA 6.
Unfortunately, the upcoming Take-Two earnings call, which should be playing out as you read this (depending on how fast you are), will not clarify the price point for GTA 6, slated to launch on November 19th.
In an interview with Variety, CEO Strauss Zelnick, the top dog at Take-Two, said when asked whether this call would address the price tag:
No.
We never make marketing announcements in our analyst calls. Never ever ever.
He then doubled down on the launch date expectations:
I think reiterating November 19 as is a launch day today is probably a positive. I think we’ve been really clear that we’re releasing the title on November 19.
GTA 6’s price likely won’t be confirmed for a good few weeks, with the consensus agreeing that Rockstar and Take-Two’s marketing campaign for the game that doesn’t really need one will commence this summer.
In a recent earnings report (the one playing out now-ish), Take-Two revealed predictions of up to $8 billion in net bookings, thanks to the impending launch of GTA 6. Those are some big bucks, and indicative of the stock Take-Two is placing in Grand Theft Auto 6.
