It seems that XBOX might be following Sony’s decision, with Project Helix seemingly not featuring a disc drive.
Players received surprising news today as Sony announced that it will cease production of discs for PlayStation games released in 2028. Many were curious about how Xbox would respond to this announcement, and it seems we now have an answer: the impact will extend to their next-generation console as well.
Project Helix Could Be Dropping Physical Discs As Well
A report from WindowsCentral discusses the disc drive plans for Project Helix. The report states, “As for Project Helix, our sources also suggest that Microsoft’s next-generation console will drop the disc drive, too.” Following Sony’s original announcement, analysts have also speculated that the PS6’s base model may similarly lack a disc drive. Additionally, there is currently no information regarding the availability of an external disc drive option for either console.
