Now, a new announcement from PlayStation is leading players to believe the next console might not arrive until 2028.
PS6 Won’t Arrive Until 2028 At the Earliest, Analysts Predict
For those who may not be aware, the latest announcement indicates that Sony will stop producing physical discs for new PlayStation games in 2028. Following this news, speculation about the PS6’s release date has begun. A report by Game File reveals that Piers Harding-Rolls, a senior games analyst at Ampere Analysis, has stated, “This pretty much guarantees that the PS6 won’t arrive until 2028 at the earliest.” Furthermore, the news also suggests that the base version of the PS6 may not include a disc drive.

There are many questions regarding the upcoming console, primarily concerning backward compatibility and how players will be able to use game discs from the PS5 and PS4 on the PS6. However, Sony has not provided any information about the next-gen console; they have only announced their plans to stop producing discs. At the moment, players will have to wait for official confirmation from Sony about the PS6 release date and disc plans to know for sure.
