Yes, you read that right. A Metal Gear Solid movie is officially in the works and is coming from Sony’s Columbia Pictures.
2026 has been a good start for Metal Gear Solid fans, with Konami recently announcing the release date for Metal Gear Solid Master Collection 2 at February’s State of Play event. Now, the prized franchise is finally coming to the big screen, with Final Destination: Bloodline directors taking the helm.
Metal Gear Solid Movie Adaptation Will Be Directed by Final Destination: Bloodlines Director Duo
A new report from The Hollywood Reporter has officially confirmed the existence of a Metal Gear Solid movie adaptation. Directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, known for their work on the Final Destination Bloodlines series, have signed a deal with Sony Pictures to develop films across all of the studio’s labels.
As part of this agreement, Sony’s Columbia Pictures Metal Gear Solid adaptation will be directed by them. The film will be produced by Avi Arad and Ari Arad, who have worked on other game adaptations, including Borderlands and The Legend of Zelda.
The duo also commented on the upcoming adaptation, recognizing Hideo Kojima’s work on the original game. Here’s what Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein stated on the upcoming Metal Gear Solid movie:
“Metal Gear Solid was nothing short of a groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece that forever revolutionized video games. We are thrilled and honored to bring Hideo Kojima’s iconic characters and unforgettable world to life.”
