Over six years after it was first released, Risk of Rain 2 is getting a brand new DLC.
Announced as part of the Triple I Initiative showcase on Thursday, Risk of Rain 2: Hallowed Concepts is a new expansion that “takes players deeper into the dark, cult-like world of N’Kuhana.”
In the new expansion from developers Gearbox Software, players have to fight through and explore new areas of Petrichor V. On their journey, players will “face horrific new enemies, and uncover powers never before possible in Risk of Rain 2.”
A release date for the Hallowed Concepts DLC wasn’t announced, but the developers say that it’s “coming soon”. Full details on what players can expect will also be announced at some point prior to launch.
Risk of Rain 2 first launched in early access in 2019 for PC and console. It was a follow-up to 2013’s Risk of Rain, but takes the series in a completely new direction.
Whereas the original Risk of Rain was a 2D roguelike platformer, Risk of Rain 2 is a co-op third-person shooter with roguelike elements. The game was first developed by Hopoo Games, but when the game was acquired by Gearbox in 2022, Hopoo stopped working on the game entirely.
In 2024, it was announced that the company’s founders, along with other employees, had begun working on game development for Valve. Since then, the studio itself has been silent.
