Marvel Rivals Aims to Become ‘Moving Anime Experience’

Marvel Rivals wants to be so much more than a video game hero shooter. The free-to-play game aims to be an extension of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a comprehensive moving anime.

The game’s creative director, Guangyun Chen, recently discussed what the team’s goals are through 2026 and beyond.

Marvel Rivals: A Moving Anime

Speaking to FRVR, Chen said the team wants to push boundaries in 2026. To do that, the focus will shift. The game is going to expand and become significantly more PvE-focused with more tie-ins to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“We are moving beyond standard 6v6 PvP,” Chen explained. “This includes the expansion into new PvE modes and Path to Doomsday. The event will feature five MCU-related updates inspired by the Infinity Saga, including new game modes and themed content.”

Furthermore, Chen states that the ultimate goal is to become a moving anime experience. Path to Doomsday is said to be a primary thematic driver for the rest of the year in the free-to-play title. More details on future updates to come later.

“With over 9,000 Marvel characters to draw from, we aren’t worried about running out of options soon,” said Chen, noting that the current plan maps out content through 2027.

  • Honestly people like that they’re not tied to the MCU. I would think they’d move to an original IP instead this seems like a bad move and dying game.
