Following the LEC Roadtrip in Évry, France, half of the LEC Playoff places have been secured, with Karmine Corp and Natus Vincere joining Team Vitality.
There are now only three Playoff spots left, and four teams remain in contention following the mathematical eliminations of SK Gaming, Team Heretics, and Shifters.
KCorp are the only undefeated team in the league, having defeated NAVI, Shifters, and Fnatic in front of a home crowd this past weekend.
Currently, they look like the strongest team in the league with American support Alan ‘Busio’ Cwalina thriving in the current ranged support meta.
Though Team Vitality are up there with them after a surprisingly strong split.
Vitality didn’t play last week, but had already qualified following an impressive six-game win streak following their opening day loss to KCorp back in March.
Meanwhile, NAVI were stomped by KCorp on Friday but recovered with two victories over Shifters and Fnatic to lock their place in the top six. Yet, the team’s continued struggle to close out games is a worrying sign for their future results.
SK Gaming, Team Heretics, and Shifters Eliminated
SK, Heretics, and Shifters have all been eliminated from the top six following poor results in Spring.
Shifters had a surprisingly strong showing at the KCorp Roadtrip, taking games off NAVI and KCorp, but a 2-0 loss to Fnatic sentenced them to another early elimination as the only winless team in the league.
Heretics have undergone a fair few roster changes this year, with star jungler Théo ‘Sheo’ Borile benching himself a big loss for the struggling organisation.
And despite strong showings from rookie Josip ‘Jopa’ Čančar, SK’s roster has continued to falter. As the only team to lose to Heretics so far, the roster has been eliminated with a 2-6 record.
The Remaining LEC Playoff Contenders
GIANTX, G2 Esports, Movistar KOI, and Fnatic are the only teams still in contention for playoff qualification.
However, Fnatic looks most likely to miss out despite appearing to have shown great improvement during the last week.
Fnatic find themselves on one fewer win despite having played one game more than their playoff contenders.
On the other side of things, GIANTX are one game ahead with a 4-2 record. However, they have perhaps had an easier schedule so far, with their wins coming over the bottom four: Fnatic, SK, Shifters, and Team Heretics.
Meanwhile, reigning LEC champions G2 had a slow start to the regular season, but that isn’t uncommon for the organisation — especially after a heroic international run at First Stand.
And like G2, MKOI have only played five series and have a lot of matches ahead of them to climb the standings. Still, the roster has continued to show inconsistency and mistakes, holding the squad back from its perceived high ceiling.
