Team n0thing Wins Ludwig Ahgren’s ‘CS Minor’

Jordan ‘n0thing’ Gilbert’s team came out on top in Ludwig Ahgren’s ‘CS Minor’ LAN, defeating Eric ‘fl0m’ Flom’s roster to win the event, with n0thing rolling back the years in the process to lead his team to victory.

Content creators and CS casting royalty star in summit-style event

The tournament featured four teams, with four experienced Counter-Strike pro captains who drafted teams from a list of content creators.

The captains were n0thing, Eric ‘fl0m’ Flom, Austin ‘Austin’ Meadows, and n0thing’s fellow former Cloud9 rifler Michael ‘shroud’ Grzesiek.

Content creators involved in the event included streaming superstars Valkyrae, Stable Ronaldo, and of course, Ludwig himself.

The event also featured three of Counter-Strike’s top casters, including Canada’s Mohan ‘launders’ Govindasamy, who was joined by the British commentary duo, Hugo Byron and Harry ‘JustHarry’ Russell.

Launders took to social media after the event, likening the event to the vibe of CS Summit events, where teams would play a tournament in a house, saying, “Hopefully this isn’t the last, I love sharing the game with new audiences and getting to meet everyone. Summit forever”

CS Minors moniker revived for Ludwig LAN

The event was Ludwig’s first foray into the Counter-Strike esports space, but the streamer has strong associations with esports as a whole as part-owner of Shopify Rebellion following Shopify’s merger with Moist Esports.

The YouTuber is endemic to the Fighting Games Community, emerging initially in the Smash Bros scene, where he first made content with co-commentator for the CS Minor, Anthony ‘Slime’ Bruno.

Still, Ludwig may not know that CS Minors used to be a thing in Counter-Strike. For the majority of the Global Offensive era, CSGO Minor Championships were used instead of RMRs or today’s VRS system to decide who would go to the Major.

Teams that did not qualify through Legend (finishing Top 8 at the previous Major) or Challenger status (8th-16th or 8th-14th depending on the Major) would play Minors in their regions, directly qualifying them to the Major.

So while a CS Minor may seem like a self-affacing play on CS Majors, the tournaments were once the most vital tournaments for dozens of teams each year, hoping to earn their way to the Majors and earn sticker money for themselves and their orgs.
