GTA 6 ‘Roleplay’ Depth Outlined: ‘You Can Have Your Life In The Game’

Grand Theft Auto 6 hasn’t even launched yet, but fans are already looking forward to the roleplaying opportunities its world could offer. While many players will be eager to dive into the story, pull off daring heists, and cause chaos across Leonida, others are just as excited about the prospect of living a quieter life in Rockstar’s upcoming open-world adventure.

Based on a recent deep dive into the game, it seems Rockstar is aiming to deliver its most immersive world yet, with one of the studio’s leads suggesting that players will genuinely be able to “have your life in the game.”

GTA 6 Lets You Live Your Own Life

Edge Magazine has published an extensive feature on Grand Theft Auto 6, offering a closer look at the systems and mechanics that will shape the experience. While the feature explores everything from the direction of the story to the Criminal Profile system, it also contains some promising details for players who prefer a slower approach to open-world games.

Rockstar studio head Aaron Garbut explains that players will be able to “really make the game what you want it to be at the time,” suggesting there’s plenty of room to enjoy Leonida beyond its criminal underworld.

Whether that’s stopping at a shop to buy a beer or travelling around the world using its fully functional public transport systems, Rockstar appears keen to give players plenty of opportunities to take things at their own pace. Rather than constantly pushing players towards the next mission, the world is designed to offer experiences worth engaging with simply because they’re there.

Fellow studio lead Rob Nelson echoes this sentiment, explaining that “it’s more about trying to let people lean into the way they want to play.” This approach could be particularly exciting for fans interested in roleplaying, allowing them to establish their own routines and find ways to interact with the world outside the main story—which you can’t speedrun, by the way.

Of course, Rockstar has a long history of creating immersive open worlds, so this isn’t entirely new territory for the studio. However, we’ve already seen glimpses of how much there could be to do in GTA 6, including taking Jason and Lucia on a date to the zoo, going snorkelling, or simply driving around Leonida together.

Edge Magazine’s deep dive into GTA 6 didn’t stop there, either. 12 new screenshots were revealed, as well as a closer look at how big the map of Leonida actually is—spoiler: developers are still finding new areas they’ve never seen before.
