XBOX Chief Technology Officer Scott Van Vliet has announced the company is working to improve the situation with game reviews on the platform, amid concerns that arose off the back of the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
Modern Warfare 4 has been released to critical acclaim but, despite being an XBOX first-party title, there is a huge discrepancy in platform-specific reviews, with the Microsoft console lagging behind.
XBOX to Improve Game Review Process
That was made abundantly clear with a Call of Duty post that celebrated the Metacritic scores of the title, which listed all platforms apart from XBOX Series X|S.
The reason for the omission of XBOX on the graphic had a simple explanation, as there isn’t a Metacritic score for the XBOX version of the game due to not having enough reviews, which sparked a discussion about the review process on the platform.
Those concerns have been heard, however, as Van Vliet confirmed that the team is working to improve the situation and that the first updates are coming soon.
“Reviewing a game on XBOX takes too many steps today. Press and creators should be able to redeem and play, and that’s what the team is ultimately building toward. The first updates are coming soon,” he posted on X.
It’s not a situation exclusive to MW4 either, as earlier this year, Halo: Campaign Evolved, another first-party title, was similarly weighted towards PlayStation 5 reviews, with 60 critic reviews on the Sony platform compared to 42 on XBOX, per Metacritic.
