Massive Entertainment has announced that the Division Franchise has reached a lifetime player milestone of 50 million, celebrating the landmark figure.
The numbers cover the entirety of titles under The Division umbrella and comes amid continued development for the third game in the series.
The Division Hits 50 Million Lifetime Players
First released in 2016, the first game in the series was set in New York City during a Black Friday smallpox pandemic, which then saw three major expansions, and, across the entirety of the franchise, a landmark of 50 million players has been achieved.
A sequel, The Division 2, released in 2019, switching the focus to Washington D.C., with players fighting to prevent the total collapse of federal government, which was again supported by DLC and post-launch content drops.
In 2023, Massive Entertainment announced it was leading the development of The Division 3, and while specific details weren’t shared, development is ongoing, though there is no news on a potential release window.
Both titles were major hits, with the first game hitting an all-time player peak of over 114,000 on Steam, per SteamDB, though those numbers plummeted for the sequel, which is due to Ubisoft electing not to release The Division 2 on the platform at launch, instead pushing players towards the Ubisoft Store.
A lengthy wait for the next entry in the series has raised expectations for The Division 3, though it will land amid a fiercely competitive scene, with the likes of ARC Raiders and Call of Duty to compete with.
