It was recently confirmed during a developer FAQ stream that 007 First Light will not offer New Game+ at launch, and there are no plans to introduce it in the future. Instead, there will be a focus on replayability through TacSim, a mode that allows missions to be replayed with added modifiers and challenges.
This follows the news that a sequel could be on the cards if the game proves to be popular enough, as well as the fact that the Nintendo Switch 2 release could be delayed again.
Additional 007 First Light Developer Details
The lack of New Game+ was just a drop in the water during the developer stream, where numerous frequently asked questions were answered. Not only did they explain the status of multiplayer and a demo, but it was revealed that an online connection will not be required after the game’s initial download.
As for gameplay details, there will be a “constant flow” of new stuff to unlock, which ranges from new gadgets and gizmos to suits, though these are mainly limited to TacSim to maintain the campaign’s tone. They’re earned by completing challenges, which encourage you to complete the missions in multiple ways.
That said, there isn’t any progression in the traditional sense, with Bond not able to unlock new skills; instead, the gadgets will serve as your progression. At the start of each mission, you’ll have to decide which ones you want to bring with you, and you can even use them quickly during combat.
If you do break out into a scuffle, which is expected to happen quite a lot, then you can use a lot more than your own gear. You’ll have to mix between the combo-based melee system and the various weapons you can find during stages to get the upper hand against your enemies—or you can always bluff them, and avoid a fight altogether.
007 First Light is set to launch on May 27, so you don’t have to wait long until you can unpack all of this for yourself.
