007 First Light Sequel Depends On Public Reception

The future of IO Interactive’s take on James Bond seems to be up in the air, as CEO Hakan Abrak revealed in an interview whether a 007 First Light sequel is on the cards.

Ultimately, it seems like it all boils down to how well received the first one is, with 007 First Light due to be released in just a few short weeks on May 27, 2026.

In an interview with Christopher Dring of The Game Business, Hakan Abrak shared that his team are confident in the quality of 007 First Light, and so are Amazon, the current IP holder for the James Bond franchise.

“But from Amazon’s side, I’ll be so bold and say, they can see it’s a great game. And having invested and taken over that IP, they obviously want to make sure that everything that comes out is great. So, once they got into it and played, they became huge supporters. And we are very grateful for that.”

He goes on to mention how strong IO Interactive’s relationship is with Amazon MGM, and how they’re all looking towards the same future.

“There’s no doubt that we all want to see how this is doing. It’s not only Amazon MGM side, is also IO Interactive side. Is our character going to be well received? Is there going to be a community that likes him and wants to see more?”

Finally, he closes this segment of the interview off with a glimpse into the 007 future, and whether First Light could get a sequel, saying, “We are so blessed that we are in a place where we can pick and choose what we want to do. So, if this goes really well and it’s a beloved thing from the community, why not?”

Of course, what is defined as “really well” is up for interpretation, but it’s clear that IO Interactive has Amazon’s backing, so if 007 First Light sells well and receives a solid batch of reviews, we could very well see a sequel on the horizon.
