James Bond is rarely a one-man operation. Whether he’s teaming up with MI6 allies, working alongside fellow agents, or relying on the latest gadgets from Q Division, 007’s missions almost always involve a memorable supporting cast. That’s why many fans are curious whether 007 First Light will let players bring friends along for the ride.
After all, infiltrating enemy compounds and surviving explosive action sequences sounds even more exciting with a partner at your side. However, when you’re trying to stay undercover, an extra agent could easily complicate things. So, does 007 First Light feature multiplayer or co-op gameplay, or is Bond flying solo this time around? Here’s everything you need to know.
Does 007 First Light Have Multiplayer?
Unfortunately, 007 First Light will not feature any form of multiplayer, as the developers said that it “wasn’t in the conversation at all” when developing the game.
Instead, IO Interactive are very determined to create a narrative-based adventure, and to keep it single player would best feed into the studio’s strengths. It might be slightly disappointing for some of you out there, especially fans of the classic N64 Goldeneye multiplayer, but it’s promising to see a studio have such a clear vision for a game.

Plus, there will still be some multiplayer elements in 007 First Light, namely regarding the TacSim challenges. These offer replayable scenarios based on the game’s missions, and you can compete in online leaderboards to set high scores. So, whilst you can’t play directly alongside online friends, you can duke it out to see who’s the most effective spy—it’s better than nothing!
Does 007 First Light Have Co-Op?
As you might have guessed, 007 First Light features no co-op gameplay, as there are no other playable characters besides Bond himself.
Whilst couch co-op games are beginning to make a slight comeback, they’re still fairly rare to find. It seems like if you’re looking for an explosive action game to play alongside friends, family or a partner, you’ll have to look elsewhere, as 007 First Light is exclusively single player.

Instead, your company would have to settle for watching you play through the game instead. Considering it’s full of action set pieces that are akin to the movies, it might not be such a terrible idea, but only one of you will be in control of the master spy.
