The International 2026 will see its eight-team double-elimination playoffs begin in Shanghai’s Oriental Sports Center on Thursday. Still, no hometown Chinese representation will be present after a bruising Swiss and Play-ins stage for the region.
The International 15 is officially the worst-ever TI for Chinese Dota 2 rosters, with no single Chinese team or player making the playoffs.
The International 2026 Playoff Bracket
The International 2026 Playoff Bracket is:
- Iron Wing vs Team Spirit
- Team Vision vs BoomBoys
- Team Liquid vs Yandex
- Team Falcons vs Nigma Galaxy
All matches in the double-elimination bracket will be Best of 3, except for the Best of 5 Grand Final.
As is typical for Dota 2 events, there will be a lot of Dota played over just a few days, with 14 Playoff series set to be played in just four days of action from August 20-23.
How the TI 15 Swiss Stage and Play-Ins played out
Team Vision [Parivision] backed up their Esports World Cup 2026 triumph in emphatic fashion to be the first team to progress to the playoffs, boasting an 8-2 games record to progress 4-0 at the top of the Swiss Stage.
Liquid and Nigma were next to join with 4-1 records, expectedly for Liquid but shockingly for a Nigma Galaxy team that has looked far off championship-winning level for the rest of the year.
On the other end of the spectrum, Hulgani [L1GA Team] were the first to leave the competition, with their slayers OG soon to join them.
Stunningly, TI 2025 runners-up, Xtreme Gaming, also crashed out with a 1-4 overall record, unable to deal with the burden of being hometown favorites at the Shanghai TI.
The roster fell to Spirit, a respectable loss, but capitulated against GamerLegion and an LGD team that had been marred by controversy pre-tournament and forced to field a stand-in, as Santiago ‘TaiLung’ Agüero Gustavo was permanently banned from TI and PGL events due to integrity issues. Retired Finnish legend Topias ‘Topson’ Taavitsainen took his place.
Finally, Xtreme were put out of their misery by regional rivals, Team Resilience.
That left China’s hopes on Resilience and Vici Gaming in the Play-Ins.
While Vici is an org that holds so much history in the space, their competitive level in 2026 was not enough to overcome TI 2025 champions, Team Falcons.
Team Resilience, the surprise winners of the China qualifier over Vici, put up a strong fight against the hugely talented and more experienced Spirit roster, but it was not enough as they fell 1-2.
That loss painfully removed the last Chinese roster from the competition, but more pain was to come as even a Chinese roster fielding a South American team could not make it, with LGD falling 1-2 to Yandex, ensuring no Chinese player or org made the playoffs.
BoomBoys [BetBoom] and Ironwing [1win] also progressed through the Play-ins, knocking out a disappointing Aurora and the spirited NA GamerLegion roster to confirm that playoffs would be a purely European affair.
The results raise further questions surrounding regional support and decline in Dota 2, as the competitive disparity continues to grow between Europe and other regions.
