The Esports World Cup 2026 Playoffs are set to begin on Wednesday with the 16-team single-elimination bracket set after the conclusion of the Group Stage.
The tournament’s bracket has resulted in both consternation and concern for fans, as the majority of Counter-Strike’s big hitters have ended up on the same side of the bracket.
Esports World Cup Counter-Strike 2 Playoff Bracket
The EWC CS2 Round of 16 matchups are:
- G2 vs Astralis
- FURIA vs Aurora
- FUT vs magic
- GamerLegion vs MOUZ
- NAVI vs Legacy
- Falcons vs The Mongolz
- FaZe vs Vitality
- B8 vs Spirit
The bracket has caused a stir in the CS community, with NAVI, Falcons, Vitality, FaZe, and Spirit all on one side of the bracket.
Consistently amongst the most supported teams, only one will make it to the Grand Final at the Accor Arena.
EWC CS2 Bracket Brings Back IEM Cologne Major Memories
The bracket has been likened to the IEM Cologne 2026 Major Playoff bracket, which saw Falcons, Vitality, Spirit, and G2 on one side of the bracket.
That time, FURIA and Aurora made the Semi-Finals on the other side against 9z and BetBoom. This time, they face each other at the first opportunity, with Aurora’s roster now vastly altered.
MOUZ will also fancy a run in the perceived ‘weaker’ side of the bracket, having won BLAST Bounty Season 2 in Malta, and running high on confidence.
However, their quarter-final opponents may be a FUT roster that defeated MOUZ in groups and have shown no signs of faltering under the bright lights of an arena event.
As for the strong side of the bracket, the event is certain to be a brutal fight for survival, with FaZe facing Vitality straight away in a rematch of the online contest that saw FaZe make the BLAST Bounty LAN Finals.
For Vitality, the draw is a result of a surprise loss to B8 in the Groups, but a demolition of Lynn Vision easily progressed them to the playoffs.
Spirit’s place in the draw also resulted from a shock loss in the Bo1s to JiJieHao. A strong showing in the playoffs will be necessary to keep pressure off coach Sergey ‘hally’ Shavayev, whose place on the roster is under scrutiny after perceived superior performances in his absence due to illness.
For Falcons, the bracket’s resemblance to IEM Cologne will be the perfect piece of nostalgia to motivate them at the start of this season, with their Cologne Major triumph completing the trophy set for legendary rifler Nikola ‘NiKo’ Kovač.
