It didn’t take long after the release of the original Switch for Nintendo to start working on the design and framework of what would become the Nintendo Switch 2.
According to official court papers from the lawsuit involving Nintendo against accessory company Genki, it was just two years after the Switch’s launch that the work began.
“Shortly after the release of the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo began planning its successor console, with formal hardware development beginning around 2019,” the documents read. “The Nintendo Switch 2 employs the same hybrid home-and-handheld model of the original Nintendo Switch with increased processing power, a larger screen, new chat and social features, and improved Joy-Con 2 controllers, which now have a new mouse function.”
