Half-Life 3 is ‘Playable End-to-End’, It’s Claimed

According to a new claim, it seems Valve already has a playable version of Half-Life 3.

Half-Life 3’s Development Progress

The information about Half-Life 3’s development progress comes from Tyler McVicker on YouTube (via Eurogamer). McVicker’s new Ask Me Anything video dives into a full-fledged discussion about Half-Life 3, discussing the game’s playtests, plot, development schedule, and more. Also, McVicker has stated that Half-Life 3 will not be a VR title.

Starting with its development progress, McVicker stated that the game is “the furthest it’s ever been,” adding that Half-Life 3 is ‘playable end-to-end’. Currently, the developers are “optimising” and “polishing the game,” and it is probably already “content locked, and if it’s not, then it’s mechanic locked.”

Half-Life 3 Procedural Generation Details

McVicker stated earlier that Half-Life 3 is being “playtested so religiously and so widely” that some players will divulge all details. Starting with the ‘procedural generation’, it seems that this feature in Half-Life 3 will not be related to changing geometry, but changing ‘entity placement’. Doors, physics, props, enemies, items or NPCs can be considered entities. However, procedural generation will not build a brand-new level. This feature will not extend to the story of the game either.

McVicker also provided some details about Portal 3, stating that “Erik Wolpaw wants to do Portal 3 so fucking bad”. Further into the video, he also noted that most of the team will retire after the release of Half-Life 3. Depending on who remains, Portal 3 might become “the next single player project for Valve.” Also, Chell from Portal might pop up in Half-Life 3.

The information about Half-Life 3 does not come from an official source; please take it with a grain of salt.

In other news, the last time we heard about Half-Life 3, it had moved to its next playtesting stage. What are your thoughts on Half-Life 3 being playable end-to-end? Let us know down below, and join the discussion in the official Insider Gaming forums.
