Nintendo Switch 2 Features Officially Revealed

Nintendo held its special Nintendo Switch 2 Direct event on Wednesday, and with it came confirmation of all of the features and specs of the new console.

For the better part of the last 18 months, rumors and speculation have run rampant regarding what the new console will be. After first showing the console’s design in January, reports continued to pick up about what features the Nintendo Switch 2 will have.

Now, there’s an official answer for when the console launches on June 5 for $449.99. Pre-orders for the console will begin on April 9.

Nintendo Switch 2 Features

The Nintendo Switch 2 will feature an 7.9-inch 1080p LCD Screen that keeps the same overall size of the original console. The screen itself also supports HDR and up to 120 frames per second (FPS).

In handheld mode, Nintendo says battery life ranges from 2-6.5 hours.

When docked, the console will support up to 4K resolution for compatible games with HDR supported in TV mode. The new dock has a built-in fan to keep the system cooler when using the more powerful features.

Moving to the Joy-Cons, the controllers feature large SL/SR buttons and features larger control sticks. It was also confirmed that each Joy-Con can be used as a mouse for select games.

The system itself has a more flexible kickstand as well as USB-C ports on the top and bottom. It also includes 256GB of internal storage. For additional storage, the new console will only work with MicroSD Express Cards. That means regular MicroSD cards from the original Switch won’t be compatible.

Of course, there is the mysterious “C” button that everyone had ideas about. Nintendo confirmed during the event that it will be a multi-functional button that allows players to chat with other players online through the console for the first time. This replaces the need for a third-party mobile app that players on the original Nintendo Switch required. In addition to the chat functionality, the “C” button allows for screen sharing between players. Using GameChat requires Nintendo Switch Online.
