A new report has revealed that Sega’s Sonic, Crazy Taxi, and Stranger than Heaven franchises are getting Netflix adaptations.
Adaptations have been a great new opportunity for the gaming market, and many publishers have been exploring them, as they bring eyes to franchises that never really had them. A great example is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which drove a lot of sales for the game. Sega already has a highly popular Sonic movie series, but it’s now expanding into more franchises.
Crazy Taxi Comedy Movie, Sonic TV Series, and Stranger than Heaven Movie Confirmed
According to a Variety report, players have received confirmation of multiple Netflix adaptations of Sega gaming franchises. The first is the Crazy Taxi film, which will be written by the people behind The Naked Gun reboot, Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. Next up is a new animated ‘Sonic: The Hedgehog series for kids and another movie for Stranger Than Heaven; however, the people behind the movie have not been revealed yet.
The VP of nonfiction and transmedia at Netflix, Brandon Reigg, has stated, “Great games already have what every adaptation is chasing — characters people love, worlds they know by heart, and fandoms that show up. With ‘Crazy Taxi,’ ‘Sonic,’ and ‘Stranger Than Heaven,’ we get to work across three completely different eras of Sega’s catalog, celebrating everything fans love, while introducing them to new audiences.”

Describing the shows themselves, the head producer at Sega, Toru Nakahara, has stated, “Expect something cute yet cool for ‘Sonic,’ hilariously crazy for ‘Crazy Taxi,’ and a badass action drama for ‘Stranger Than Heaven,’ because we’ve got some amazing creative ideas lined up, and we are just getting started. The whole team is absolutely thrilled!”
