The Nintendo Switch 1 was a huge success, but it’s currently being destroyed by the Switch 2; and Nintendo went early with news that the console has near-enough doubled the original console’s first-month sales.
The Nintendo Switch 2’s hot start is searing. We previously reported that the Nintendo Switch 2 was breaking all console sales records in history. Although third-party software isn’t doing great on the device, we learned the console had already outsold the PS5 Digital Edition & Xbox Series X|S consoles in Japan lifetime sales.
This isn’t enough, though, as the Switch 2 continues to dominate.
Nintendo Switch 2 Sales Double The Switch 1 in First Month

According to Nintendo Soup, it seems Nintendo was a bit premature with its sales figures for investors.
The website said: “It seems that Nintendo has put out a sales update for the Nintendo Switch 2 to its investor relations website early by accident, revealing that the console sold over 5 million units worldwide from June 5 to June 30, 2025.“
As of writing, the report has apparently been pulled, but the story continued: “This remarkable achievement has, of course, shattered records. It took 26 days for Nintendo Switch 2 to sell 5 million units, 2.5 months for the PS5 (sold 3.4 million in its first month), and 4 months for Nintendo Switch (sold 2.74 million in its first month).
Here’s the full breakdown of the reported sales figures:
- “Americas: 1.8 million units
- Japan: 1.47 million units
- Europe: 1.18 million units
- Other: 550,000 units”
Without official data, we can only speculate, but the Nintendo Switch 2 could well be carrying on its momentum as the fastest-selling console ever. Are you surprised by this? Have you joined in the action? Let us know through the Insider Gaming forum.
