The game director of Stellar Blade recently commented on the game’s mods, stating that he still prefers official game content over what the modders have been cooking up.
Stellar Blade was released for PC via Steam on June 11, 2025. Within a day, it beat all existing player number records for single-player PlayStation games that were ported to PC. Moreover, the game reached 1 million sales 19 times faster on PC than on PlayStation 5. It seems the modding community has played a significant role in helping Stellar Blade achieve these numbers on PC.
Stellar Blade Director Feels “Modders’ Firepower is Still Weak”
As revealed by Genki_JPN on X (via TheGamer), the Stellar Blade director, Kim Hyung Tae, recently commented on the game’s modding scene during an interview with This is Game. Kim Hyung Tae has stated that mods play a “positive role in expanding the gameplay experience and scope” (via Google Translate). However, the director believes that the “firepower” of the Stellar Blade modders is still weak and lacking, and he thinks that until now, the “official content” is still superior.
The Stellar Blade director explains that the “mod space” is so vast that they would not dare predict it. Additionally, as there are no official modding tools, “it is hard to change the entire game.” At the same time, Kim Hyung Tae feels that “new costumes or monster visuals are cool,” but he wants to see new mods that will “expand the user’s play experience itself.”
Stellar Blade Director Hopes the Sequel will Come Out in 2027
Apart from the mods, the Stellar Blade director addressed the sequel’s release window. Kim Hyung Tae revealed that the sequel is in the R&D phase and hopes to release it in 2027. He explained that they were creating a DLC, but the scope became that the work was carried over to the sequel. At the same time, with the work on the PC port, they haven’t made a lot of progress on the sequel.
