Watch Dogs 2 has managed to hit a peak player count of 16,220 users in the last 24 hours on Steam, which comes a whopping ten years after it last managed those kinds of numbers. Ubisoft’s open-world crime title was released in November 2016, pulling in a modest 18,139 peak players on Valve’s PC platform.
Now, a decade later, it has managed to soar close to that figure, skyrocketing up the charts and securing a 1,167% increase in peak players on Steam within one week.
Watch Dogs 2 Sees Resurgence on Steam
Watch Dogs 2 recently went on sale on Steam, with the price being slashed by a massive 95%. That took it down to just $2.49, a minuscule number for what you’re getting from this game.
Many consider Watch Dogs 2 to be the best in the series. It’s not as miserable and gritty as the first game, which was released in 2013, and it’s leagues ahead of the disaster that was Watch Dogs Legion, released in 2020 to a woeful reception.

In Watch Dogs 2, you assume control of Marcus, a young hacker in San Francisco who becomes a pivotal part of the region’s DedSec chapter. You’ll explore a massive open-world environment, take on stacks of side activities, and work your way through a vibrant, colorful story, all to stick it to The Man and fight back against a corrupt corporation.

The massive Steam sale goes some way to explaining the sudden uptick in Watch Dogs 2 players, but on social media, some have theorized that it’s linked to GTA 6 hype. It could be that folks are trying to experience something close to GTA 6, and, to be honest, Watch Dogs 2 isn’t too far off the vibe we’ve seen in the GTA 6 trailers.

With the sale and growth, the game has also stumbled upon plenty of positive reviews in recent days. The recent review count shows substantial positivity, which is indicative of the game’s quality, despite being a decade old this year.
