Unknown World has announced that Switch 2 ports for Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero will release next week.
Subnautica 2 is one of the titles experiencing troubled development as Krafton battles its leadership. One party claims that Krafton sought to avoid payment of the bonus, while the other claims that former studio executives abandoned the game. Now, we have finally heard new development-related details for the title, along with the Switch 2 port.
Subnautica and Below Zero Switch 2 Upgrades Are Free for Existing Owners
A new press release reveals that the Switch 2 ports of Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero will be released next week, on February 17, 2026. The ports will introduce visual and performance upgrades that will be in line with the Switch 2’s capabilities. The upgrades include 1440p resolution when docked, and 1080p when handheld.
Moreover, there will be 60 FPS support across both modes for the games, along with more responsive controls, and optimizations for the Joy-Con 2, including precise movement, smoother exploration, and refined interaction. The Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero Switch 2 upgrades will be available for free on the Nintendo eShop.
Subnautica 2 Multiplayer Revealed
Moreover, the latest dev vlog for Subnautica 2 highlights a multiplayer feature where “up to four players can build bases together and explore uncharted depths of the ocean as a team.” The developers also showed the game optimized for handheld devices, and their plans to improve accessibility by including cross-play support across PC and console platforms. Subnautica 2 is planned to launch later this year.
