XBOX CEO Asha Sharma says “clarity is kindness” as she confronts declining revenue, weak Game Pass growth, and broad strategic changes.
The problems facing XBOX aren’t new. Since taking over as CEO of Microsoft’s gaming wing earlier this year, Sharma has been open and blunt about her goals and immediate plans for the brand. Now, a new profile on Sharma sheds light on her journey to the top spot at XBOX and her mindset in this role.
XBOX CEO Asha Sharma Believes Transparency Is Key

The Wall Street Journal recently profiled Asha Sharma. It also included comments from people like Todd Howard, who called her uniquely effective at clear communication.
“She’s uniquely effective at cutting through and communicating clearly, ‘Here’s what the issues are and here’s where the opportunities are,’” said Howard.
The article also includes insights from Sharma about why she took the top job at XBOX.
‘It wasn’t, “Do I want to do this?” but, “Do I believe the theory of the case that I can add unique value?”’ she said.
The piece also includes quotes from a recent Town Hall, where she remarked, “Every company needs to be better at sharing difficult issues and clear realities.” To back up her mindset, the piece also shares her mantra, “Clarity is kindness.”
Sharma has been candid about XBOX’s current state, noting that it is not in good shape right now and that the Game Pass model has not been effective. Still, she and other top Microsoft executives believe the brand will return to profitability next fiscal year.
