WARDOGS, the ambitious first-person shooter from Bulkhead, has managed to decimate expectations (including those from the studio itself) and climb over 400,000 concurrent players on Steam. The game was released in early access on Thursday and quickly started running up the charts, but there’s not much sign of it slowing down right now.
Within a day, WARDOGS had sold 1.25 million units, but it’s safe to assume that number has already been eclipsed. What’s more is that the review sentiment around the game, which was getting tarnished to hell thanks to launch day instabilities, has absolutely pulled a 180 and is flying high.
What a start for Bulkhead.
BULKHEAD Celebrates Immense Success with Transparency
Our Tom Henderson recently penned a short feature gushing over Bulkhead’s incredible transparency around the development and release of WARDOGS. It has been a blissful thing to witness, with the UK-based studio wasting no time in directly updating its player base in the most honest and grounded ways possible.
It has been a wonderful journey thus far, and the consensus is that the success is very well deserved.
As I write this, WARDOGS has managed to secure a peak player count of 400,196 users on Steam, and it’s sitting at the top of streaming and social charts. The buzz is electric, and the successful early access launch will undoubtedly pave the way for the road to 1.0. That’s what the developers have set their sights on, and they’re shaping up to do things right.
On launch day, WARDOGS was unfortunately targeted by review bombers eager to mar the game’s impressions right out of the gate. The negative reviews threatened to overwhelm the positive ones on September 10, but on September 11, not a single negative review was logged.
That’s according to SteamDB, which offers the best glance possible at the numbers. Today, September 12, a couple hundred negative reviews have been filed, but they’re massively outweighed by positive sentiment.

Things are on the right track for WARDOGS, which remains a refreshing shooter with a developer that directly understands the gripes of the modern gamer. The community is being heard, and things are shaping up perfectly.
