Steam should soon be able to tell you what framerate a game will provide on your PC.
Players were recently informed about the Steam Deck 2’s release window through a new insider claim, with the handheld device seemingly targeting 2028. As that goes on, Valve continues to improve the storefront with new features, including one that provides players with framerate data for games.
Steam to Show Expected FPS for Games on Your PC
Spotted by The Gamer, Steam had revealed details about gathering framerate data through a blog post last month. The gathering of data would be optional, and will be stored “without connection” to the player’s Steam Account. It could be identified through the kind of hardware the player was using and would be used to “learn about game compatibility and improve Steam.” Now, more updates have been spotted towards the features.
A new post by LambdaGen on X (formerly Twitter) discusses new data from Roadrunner on SteamDB. The post features code that mentions a “Framerate Estimator” and a description for it, “Select an App and a PC config to get a chart of estimated framerates, based on the framerates of other Steam users.” The feature is currently in Beta, but will eventually help players estimate framerates using data collected from players with similar systems.
In other news, Valve has revealed that the Steam Machine will target 1080p at 30 FPS for Deck Verified games. Additionally, Popular streamer Jynxzi recently received a three-day Market ban on Steam after an attempt to circumvent Steam’s deposit restrictions.
