Big Update: It looks like we all got fooled during Summer Game Fest 2025! The final surprise of the showcase was in fact Resident Evil 9 AKA Resident Evil: Requiem. A lengthy trailer revealed some tense storytelling before leading to a heart-pounding and terrifying conclusion.

Capcom’s long-awaited Resident Evil 9 remains in the darkness. We’ve known for some time that the sequel was in development; now, during the biggest showcase of the year—Summer Game Fest 2025—it’s confirmed that Resident Evil 9 is coming, but it’s still being kept a secret and unofficial.
The Resident Evil 9 rumor mill has been constantly churning out speculation at every turn. There’s been talk of Resident Evil 9 being set on an island, then RE9 talk heated up following a Resident Evil 4 teaser, and we heard rumblings of Resident Evil 9 being developed as an open-world multiplayer game at one point.
The rumors will have to carry on and likely leave fans disappointed.
Resident Evil 9 Hinted at Summer Game Fest 2025
Summer Game Fest 2025 is the big one. Tons of game announcements have happened already, and it was expected that Capcom would finally reveal Resident Evil 9.
However, the game’s 30th anniversary was mentioned. It felt like the reveal was due, but it didn’t happen. Instead, Capcom director Jun Takeuchi told Summer Game Fest: “Now, about the latest Resident Evil game you’ve all been waiting for, bear with us a little bit longer, just a blink of an eye more, and it’ll be ready.”
