On Monday, it was announced that Comcast was spinning off NBCUniversal. With the spin-off, the company will be looking into other ventures for growth, and video games might be what it gets into.
In a new report from Reuters, sources tell the outlet that NBCUniversal is “eyeing opportunities in digital gaming and new entertainment franchises.”
What Would NBCUniversal Bring To Games?
Reuters says that any possible deal in gaming wouldn’t happen “until a period of time following the split”, which isn’t scheduled to be finalized for up to a year. It’s also not a certainty that it happens, as it’s one of the many options the company is exploring.
Should it happen, though, what could NBCUniversal bring to the table?
NBCUniversal and current parent company Comcast have ownership in a number of large IPs that could be ways into the gaming landscape. Franchises like Despicable Me, Shrek, The Purge, Jurassic Park/World, and M3GAN could be possibilities. There’s also the potential of purchasing studios that could be up for sale in the coming years to bring them in-house under the NBCUniversal umbrella.
Right now, everything is speculation on what a gaming division for NBCUniversal could look like. Comcast declined to comment to Reuters on the report.

No and none of their IP fits gaming really. Comcast previously tried to spin them off into EA. Honestly now Comcast should just sell them to Amazon then Amazon can shut down Twitch, SNL, L&O, and late night. Then sell Versant to Sinclair.
