For the first time, the next iteration of Call of Duty won’t be released on last-gen, which is bad news for PS4 and XBOX One owners. Modern Warfare 4 is only for current-gen consoles and PC, but an MW4 pre-order notice may give the wrong idea completely.
Call of Duty enjoyed a wonderful resurgence (not Warzone) with the Black Ops 1 and 2 Ports. Forget the price, the seasons passes, or any of the negatives, it clearly didn’t deter hundreds of thousands of paying customers who filled up both games’ lobbies within days.
With Modern Warfare 4 up next, Activision is already pushing the next sequel…to an ineligible audience.
PS4 Owners Being Offered Modern Warfare 4 Pre-Order Option

I can’t tell whether this is a complete oversight or just an odd decision on Activision’s part.
But if you own Black Ops 2 on PlayStation 4, you should now see an advert to pre-order Modern Warfare 4…even though MW4 isn’t releasing on PS4.

For the first time, a newer Call of Duty game isn’t being offered to PS4 owners.
CoD’s last-gen days are behind it, and you can only get Modern Warfare 4 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
The pre-order notice on PS4 still advertises the PS5 version, but to be clear: You cannot play and own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on PlayStation 4.
The thinking behind the decision is unclear, if there was any at all!
With PS5 prices going up and not down, it might be a tough sell for those of you who are yet to upgrade.
If you are on PS4, would you consider upgrading to PS5 for MW4? Let us know on the Insider Gaming Discord server.
