The first gameplay footage for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, which was announced last year during Gamescom, has been revealed by Game Science, showcasing 15 minutes of awe-inspiring combat, cinematics, and brief story glimpses.
Dubbed the “second title in the Black Myth series,” the game is set to follow a new protagonist, though it remains rooted in ancient Chinese mythology. Fans were enamored with the first entry into the franchise, Black Myth: Wukong, and judging by the trailer, Game Science could have another major hit on its hands.
New Black Myth: Zhong Kui Gameplay Wows Fans

There’s not much room to beat around the bush with this one: the 15 minutes of gameplay showcased for Black Myth: Zhong Kui have blown fans away, despite the footage being captured from a work-in-progress build that is still in the early stages of development.
The first thing that immediately stands out is the game’s visuals. Whether it’s during a cinematic cutscene or in the middle of combat, Black Myth: Zhong Kui looks absolutely stunning.
Before long, we get our first proper glimpse at combat, and it looks incredibly fluid. The sheer variety of animations on display makes it feel as though the protagonist is dancing through every sword fight. Combined with the cinematic finishers, it looks like the combat from Black Myth: Wukong is being taken to another level.
One particularly impressive moment comes around six minutes into the footage, when the player throws fire into a group of enemies, setting them ablaze. He then charges his blade with the flames, allowing him to unleash sweeping fire attacks during the next encounter.
The environments look equally impressive from what we’ve seen so far. Trees can catch fire, while traversal appears relatively unrestricted, with the protagonist effortlessly climbing over boulders and rocky ledges.
Following another stunning cinematic, the footage transitions into a full boss fight. A towering creature covered with clam-like shells for wings stumbles around the arena as the player chips away at its armour. Once they’re shattered, the battle changes considerably, with the boss becoming far more aggressive.
A mysterious ally eventually arrives to help defeat the creature, although things take another turn when the player appears to possess them. In this more powerful state, the fight is taken to the boss, showcasing some incredibly weighty combat. The parries and blocks in particular appear to have a satisfying amount of impact behind them.
The footage concludes with a brief sizzle reel featuring various snippets of cutscenes and even more fantastical creatures.
There’s currently no release date for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, while its platforms haven’t been fully confirmed either. So far, the game has only been announced for PC and “major consoles.”
