Fortnite has introduced a brand-new mechanic in Fortnite: The Pirate Shop Token. It comes with the Fortnite and One Piece collaboration and could offer you a gateway to a lot of free goodies and cosmetics.
Probably the biggest and most-talked-about aspect of Fortnite‘s newest season is the Pirate Token and the Pirate Shop. It’s a swashbuckling deal you need to take advantage of, but there are some questions to clear up.
How to Find the Pirate Token in Fortnite

Right now, the only way to get a Pirate Shop Token is by getting lucky and finding one in a chest during a game of Fortnite.
If you’ve played even one game of Fortnite, you know the map you drop into is populated by dozens and dozens of loot chests. It benefits you to open as many as possible, as they contain weapons, shields, and health, and the rarity is randomized.

However, when you open any loot chest in Fortnite now, you have the tiniest sliver of a chance of finding a Pirate Shop Token (more on this below), and this will gift you a plethora of goodies.
If only it were this simple.
How Rare is the Pirate Shop Token in Fortnite?
Estimates suggest you have a 1 in 700,000 chance of finding a Pirate Shop Token in Fortnite.
Let me repeat: 1 in 700,000. Various sources have indicated that these are the odds, and to make it even clearer, you potentially need to open 700,000 loot chests in Fortnite to find a token—it could be less, or more.

It’s believed that matches have between 70 and 100 chests, maybe a bit more. So a thousand matches opening every chest, right? Not a chance. Between staying alive, the circle making it hard to get certain chests, and the overall size and density of a map, you’re probably looking at 20-40 chests a game, if things go your way.
You need to get lucky. Very lucky to get a token, and very few people have gotten them so far.
Best Tips to Get Pirate Shop Token in Fortnite
Playing matches as a Squad will increase your odds of finding a token, as will exploring high-density POIs where chests are concentrated.
There’s no surefire method, unfortunately. My best recommendation is to team up with some friends. Allegedly, if one person in your four-player team gets lucky and finds a token, it counts for everyone in the squad. And of course, the more of you, the more people to open chests.
Additionally, drop into these POIs as they typically feature the most chests per game:
- Fortune’s Fort
- Lantern Landing
- Plunder Port
How to Use Pirate Token in Fortnite
You can activate your Pirate Token in the Fortnite shop as you see fit, but you only have until December 15 to do so.
Follow these steps:
- Play games of Fortnite.
- Keep opening loot chests until you acquire a Pirate Shop Token.
- Go to the Fortnite Shop.
- When you’re ready, activate your token.
- It’s now active for 14 days.
- Claim all free and available goodies in the shop!
What Can I Buy With Pirate Token in Fortnite?

Literally, all items and bundles in the shop will be yours for free. It’s genuinely a free buffet of premium Fortnite cosmetics.
There are some limitations: ‘Real money offers, gifting and passes levels/rewards are excluded, and you can only claim one free sidekick you do not already own.’
Many people think this is a countermeasure to GTA 6’s November 19 release. After all, if you can stay away from GTA and play Fortnite to hunt for the token, you can potentially secure what should be a hugely expensive number of free cosmetics for your account.
How Long is the Pirate Token in Fortnite?
It’s unclear how long the token is available for, but they might become unavailable once the first December 15 deadline has passed.
You basically get two tokens: One to use before December 15, and one in 2027. We don’t know if December 15 will serve as a cut-off point, or if Epic will keep this promotion going for a while yet.
