Crimson Desert players appear to have found AI-generated art throughout the game.
Pearl Abyss’ Crimson Desert launched on March 19 and has since sold millions of copies, generating considerable interest across multiple platforms. However, just a day after its release, players began to notice several pieces of art within the game that raised questions about whether they were AI-generated.
A number of threads on Reddit have popped up, pointing out various artworks that are questioned as AI-generated. IGN compiled a number of them from the Crimson Desert subreddit included some extra examples that one of their writers found as well.
AI Art in Gaming Is Becoming More of a Hot Button Issue
AI is increasingly used in game development. Recently, there was a large discussion around AI changing gaming artwork. NVIDIA recently unveiled DLSS 5. Upon seeing changes to Resident Evil’s Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft, DLSS 5 was compared to AI filters that are commonly seen on social media.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang would later hit back at those who had critiqued the technology, calling naysayers “completely wrong.” His comments can be read here.
In support of the new AI-driven technology, Todd Howard confirmed that Bethesda games will use DLSS 5 going forward, starting with Starfield. Read his comments here.
