NVIDIA CEO Says Gamers Are ‘Completely Wrong’ About DLSS 5

In a press Q&A with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, the CEO has said that those who have criticised DLSS 5 and the tech are “completely wrong”.

As first reported by Tom’s Hardware, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang downplayed criticism of DLSS 5 during this year’s GTC event, saying, “Well, first of all, they’re completely wrong.”

“The reason for that is because, as I have explained very carefully, DLSS 5 fuses the controllability of geometry and textures and everything about the game with generative AI,” Huang continued.

He said that developers can still “fine-tune the generative AI” and that “it’s not post-processing, it’s not post-processing at the frame level, it’s generative control at the geometry level,” he said.

Huang also said that developers can try the tool and see how they want to use it, suggesting that it’s up to a developer to try to make a “toon shader” or see if the game should be “made of glass.”

“All of that is in the control, direct control, of the game developer,” he said. This is very different than generative AI; it’s content-control generative AI. That’s why we call it neural rendering.”

Bethesda also weighed in on the criticism surrounding DLSS 5, replying to a post from DigitalFoundry on X, saying,

“Appreciate your excitement and analysis of the new DLSS 5 lighting here. This is a very early look, and our art teams will be further adjusting the lighting and final effect to look the way we think works best for each game. This will all be under our artists’ control, and totally optional for players.”

Developers Were Left in the Dark About DLSS 5

Speaking with developers and artists at studios that have agreed to DLSS 5, including CAPCOM and Ubisoft, Insider Gaming was told that the DLSS 5 tech was revealed to them at the same time as everyone else.

“We found out at the same time as the public,” said one Ubisoft developer.

Developers at CAPCOM tell Insider Gaming that the announcement and the publisher’s involvement were particularly shocking, as CAPCOM has previously been historically very “anti-AI” with projects such as Resident Evil Requiem and other unannounced projects in development. Some at the publisher fear that the DLSS 5 announcement could prompt a change in the publisher’s view on generative AI and its implementation in its games.

  • Funny the guy who is backing out of making gpus for consumers that you already have a hard time getting your hands on is calling us wrong for giving us stuff we don’t want.

  • Thats a nice word salad from Jenson. Its not generative AI its generative AI lol. And no its not the game devs job to fix Nvidias inferior product thats Nvidias job

  • Nvidia is known for selling shady products and guilt tripping us into needing them when they are junk.

    Jensen is also a moron.

  • Ubisoft use that strategy of claiming their clients are totally wrong too. It doesn’t work that well

  • Claims it’s not generative AI, then unironically shows a video that’s obviously AI-generated. Talks about using ambient info, but the lighting is a mess and the characters have ‘glitchy’ features. The potential is there, but showcasing it while it’s still so raw and promising things that aren’t ready yet is a mistake.

  • After investing the majority of their focus and funding to AI technology, of course Jenson is going to defend and promote AI. Like so many other tech companies, they have gambled so much on AI they are now forcing it on everyone and everything.
