Bodycam Devs Shut Down Shop: ‘It’s An Addition, Not The Priority’

Bodycam is enjoying a huge resurgence thanks to an overhaul that has been dubbed the largest update in the game’s history. This hyper-realistic first-person shooter has trundled along in the background until now, but recent patches and an upcoming update have given the game a new lease on life, pushing up the player count and sentiment in kind.

In a recent video uploaded to social media, the team at Reissad, the studio behind the game, revealed that they’ve shut down the in-game store. More than that, they explained why, and it’s because of a reason that you rarely see in this business.

Focusing on the Important Things

Reissad Studio, the company behind Bodycam, has worked tirelessly over the years to make this game one of the most harrowing and realistic shooters on the market. It’s a UE5 FPS that focuses on immense authenticity, and at times, it looks like some twisted LiveLeak footage more than it does a video game.

Tomorrow, September 2, heralds the arrival of the Locked and Loaded update, which is the biggest Bodycam patch ever. In the last few weeks, the developers have plugged the community with promotional videos and a slick marketing campaign that has pushed the game to the forefront of the shooter space, at least on social and video platforms.

Last weekend, a playtest for the new update pushed user counts to the highest levels they’d been since June 2024, when the game hit early access on Steam. It was then revealed on August 30 that Bodycam had secured a whopping three million wishlists on Valve’s storefront.

Now, in a new post on social media, Reissad has posted a video confirming the shutting down of the in-game store – or at least, the temporary shutdown.:

They said:

We’ve temporarily disabled the shop as part of the interface rework.

We wanted to focus as much as possible on the game itself and accelerate the release of the update.

A shop should always be an addition to the game, not the priority.

Also, there are going to be no real-money purchases inside of this update, because our current priority is improving the game itself.

It’s a refreshing take in a world so heavily dominated by discussions concerning microtransactions and monetization.

Bodycam will likely see another surge tomorrow with the long-awaited release of the Locked and Loaded update. Are you looking forward to playing it? Let us know your thoughts on the Insider Gaming Discord server.
