The ex-director of the canceled The Last of Us Online game has revealed that former Naughty Dog colleagues still consider it the best multiplayer game.
The Last of Us online game was officially canceled in 2023. The ex-director recently revealed that he was informed of the cancellation just one day before the public announcement. Now, he has also shared that the response from his former colleagues at Naughty Dog regarding the game was very positive.
Canceled Last of Us Online’s Director Will Not Let Any Other Project Suffer the Same Fate
Spotted by GamesRadar+, the ex-director of the canceled The Last of Us Online title, Vinit Agarwal, recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to discuss the messages he received about the game to this day. Agarwal stated that ex-colleagues are still messaging him, talking about “how amazing TLOU Online was going to be — still the best multiplayer game they’ve ever played.” Agarwal added that he will never let any of his work “not see the light of day again.”
The developers announced in 2023 that, upon bringing the title into full production, they realized how massive the scope of this project was and had to stop development. Naughty Dog was presented with two choices: either become a studio that focuses solely on live-service games or “continue to focus on single-player narrative games that have defined Naughty Dog’s heritage,” and they chose the latter.
In other news, The Last of Us universe reportedly features a colony of immune people apart from Ellie. Additionally, the Elden Ring movie has secured an actor from HBO’s The Last of Us series.
