All Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Changes Compared to Original

This is the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag you all remember. However, in classic remake fashion, Ubisoft has decided to make some necessary quality-of-life improvements for the betterment of you, the player. I’ve tracked down all the changes I can find over the OG.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will resemble the 2013 game, but modernize it with flashier graphics, smoother performance (hopefully), and tweak certain aspects of the original that may not have aged well.

Biggest Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Differences

The biggest changes in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced include the Animus, movement, traversal, combat, and mission design alterations, along with new gameplay and many more customization options.

90-95% of Black Flag Resynced is the core game, just reshaped here and there. But it doesn’t hurt for Ubisoft to tinker with 15-year-old gameplay to make it more palatable in 2026.

Here’s a deeper look at the changes, outside of the obvious graphical overhaul.

Animus Altered

The Animus has undergone some maintenance, which will, ‘Feature new moments that focus on Edward’s internal struggle.’

Recent AC games have shifted away from the Animus, as players feel it takes them away from the game they’re enjoying. So, it’s still in Resynced, but has been reworked, with new bits added in.

Action-Based Combat

Resyned’s combat has had an overhaul, with the ability to use the Hidden Blade during combat being removed and now restricted to stealth kills and specific prompts where it’s required.

Generally, Black Flag Resynced’s combat is ‘Reworked To An Action-Oriented Experience.’

This isn’t as scary as it sounds. Combos should be smooth, and there’s a modern-day action focus on parrying and colours to signify everything. It’ll be second nature very quickly.

Furthermore, enemies adapt to repetitive playstyles.

Mission Design Tweaks

One aspect, in particular, has received a much-needed revision in Resynced: Revamped Tailing and Eavesdropping Missions.

Here’s what Edward Kenway voice actor Matt Ryan had to say:

“Tailing and eavesdropping missions have also been revamped. In the original game, getting discovered meant instant desynchronization. Yes, this was a pretty big pinpoint we remember. Now, the action continues, your objctives remain, but your target will react, and you must adapt accordingly.”

Movement

There’s a more fluid feel about Edward in Resynced, which we’ve seen from leaked gameplay footage.

It’s been confirmed that you can now crouch, aiding stealth, and your movement will be affected by the game’s dynamic day and night cycle, with darkness giving you an edge—a two-for-one here.

Naval Upgrades & Sea Exploration

You can recruit officers for the Jackdaw, which is cool! More ships, more customization options to make your ship look boss, new sea shanties, and so much more.

Resynced as a whole has been described by the devs as ‘completely seamless,’ and it should mean next-to-no loading screens and full freedom to explore the game.

Hours of New Gameplay

If you didn’t know, the new Black Flag Resynced content adds six hours of gameplay.

Richard Knight, game director for AC Resynced, has confirmed that new content includes new quests, officer quests, and other similar activities—we’re sure a lot of it is being kept as a surprise for the full release.

New Trophies

Another small change is that the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Trophy List is different compared to the original. Many are the same, but a few new ones have been added as you chase the Platinum Trophy or full Gamerscore.
